Franz’s practice is a byproduct of his continuous philosophical exploration. His artwork often straddles the line between object and performance. Large-scale sculptures and installations often include references to freedom and the search for truth in today’s complex society. Franz presents themes of human evolution while exploring the relationship of matter, perception, movement, and the mind.
By working on a large scale, the artist creates physically and mentally demanding pieces with full body and mind dedication. Franz’s work pushes the boundaries between space, art, and human interaction.
Franz Klainsek's art brings awareness to issues of suffering, offering the viewer a possible solution, in his words, to “Live in Truth. Rest In Freedom.”
The work regularly lives in the state of impermanence, as Franz explores a lifetime of creation, existence, and death through his art. These themes also appeared in the installation Presence (2018) presented by Mana Contemporary (a group exhibition curated by Ysabel Pinyol) where Franz created a massive installation of balanced gold-painted nails. The artist often uses unconventional materials in his work. The site-specific installations and sculptures present his fascination with redefining the use of an object.
Franz Klainsek’s work has a tendency to embody endurance art. Working on a grand scale, Franz Klainsek creates physically and mentally demanding pieces in full body and mind dedication.
His conceptual artistic expression lives in transformation. Franz’s exhibitions have presented transformed spaces of site-specific installations of immersive art, interactive work, sculptures, paintings, and performance. His public exhibition Liberación (2020-2021) for example — a 3-story historic building transformed into an immersive experience of freedom for over 10,000 visitors.
In 2019 he had initiated the creation of Earthworks and Land Artworks on 9,000-acre desert land in a project that continues to take form today, with the first Land Art sculpture installation completed in 2021. With exhibitions internationally, Franz Klainsek’s work was recently shown at Museo Jumex in Mexico City (2020), and el MUPO (2021) Franz was invited to give a TED talk in 2020.
Born in Miami, he has spent significant time in Europe, North America, the Amazon region of South America, and parts of The Middle East. Now Franz works and lives between New York City, LA, and Mexico.
